The good news Fujifilm users have been waiting for – the arrival of focus peaking for the X-E1 and the 18-55mm f2.8-4 “kit” lens.

Focus peaking is a feature in the camera that enables the user to see which portion of the frame is in sharp focus by highlighting edges that are in focus. This is a boon for those who are using manual lenses such as old SLR lenses on mirrorless camera systems via a lens adaptor as they do not need to zoom into the frame to ascertain the focus.
Initial tests with my manual lenses, the AIS Nikon 50mm f1.4, Samyang 85mm f1.4 and the Canon L39 (Leica screw mount) 135mm has the camera indicated areas of sharpness and allows me to take focused shots without having to make use of the focus zoom function..
The disappointment came in 2 areas. Although I can ascertain the areas that are peaking, the highlighted edges may not be very obvious for some people. The other thing I would like to see is the use of other colours instead of white so that it would be more obvious to the user.
Despite the shortcomings, having focus peaking is a great feature in itself and has made the X-E1 system very much a complete machine except for the lack of a phase detection focusing system now used by the X100s.
